Italian Heritage Parade
Rotary Parade of Flags!
Over 100 Rotarians, Interactors, family and friends participated in the Italian Heritage Parade!
Unfortunately, we could not find the Italian flag (!!!) and Dr. Coppozi had to go and buy a small Italian flag. SF Chinatown / Community Youth Center had over 45 participants, Fisherman's Wharf / Galileo High School Interact had over 20 participants, SF#2 / Lowell High School Interact Club had over 25 participants, SF Bayview / SFPD Bicycle group had 6 participants, Greater Mission had one participant, and the Westwood Village RC (think UCLA) had 5 participants .... and of course, there was District Governor John!

The weather was perfect and the Blue Angles provided post parade entertainment.

Many of us arrived at 10:00 to help decorate the cable car, some circled around looking for us (sorry for the last minute meeting changes ....) Done in 30 minutes. Starbucks seemed to benefit from our early arrivals! T-shirts and flags were passed out and we were ready to rock-n-roll, but it's only 11:30. Some muffins, cookies, water and just waiting ..... Our flags and quackers were ready.
Then at 12:30PM, it was time! The Fisherman's Wharf Merchants Association cable car with their DJ music trailer lead the way. The pace was brisk! Once we were on Jefferson Street and on the Wharf it was amazing. People and energy everywhere! Everyone loved Mike York's dogs. We turned up Leavenworth and headed towards North Beach. As we approached upper Columbus Ave, the sidewalks were filled with tables and patrons enjoying their lunches and the parade. As we made the zig-zag turn on Vallejo Street, patrons would come out and hand us a glass of wine and put on "I'm Italian" stickers on us! We made the final turn (avoiding horse droppings) and passed in front of the Washington Square grandstand, we're waving our flags and quacking to the music! A mic was stuck in front of Ron ... The "quackers" were part of our co-sponsor (Duck/Cable Car Tours) and of course, he mentioned October 24 World Polio Day, and lighting of the Ferry Building in San Francisco.
Thank you DG Bill for your support and then rushing to the Alumni event!
